Stage 3 Motorsports 2014 F150 5.0L STX Hunting Truck Project Build
The perfect hunting truck is one that can get you deep into the wilderness while bringing along everything you need to have successful hunt. Our take on an F150 Hunting Truck started out as a fairly bare-bones 2014 F150 5.0L STX that we then equipped with a beefy suspension and everything we needed to make our hunting adventures a joy instead of a chore. Our STX F150 is a basic truck from factory which has its benefits, but to make it an effective hunting rig we needed to add some better storage and more utility. A new Decked bed drawer system, Rhino Rack roof rack with full size spare tire, Westin headache rack and drop steps all helped prepare this truck for long weekends in the woods. The 5.0L V8 in our F150 is like a trusty old ox that works hard and will get the job done... but it won't do it quickly. To help our motor along we decided to drop in a new K&N intake as well as a Bully Dog tuner to squeeze a bit of extra power out and make our F150 just that much more capable. Protecting our F150's interior and utilizing it's cab space as best as possible was important with this build. With dirt being tracked in and out of the cab and equipment scattered everywhere it was obvious that we'd need a few modifications. We covered up the front and rear seats with Carhartt covers, dropped a DU-HA storage box in the back and even added a Console Vault up front. MORE INFO ON OUR INTERIOR UPGRADES
The factory F150 halogen lighting has a reputation for being terrible and with this truck destined for long days and late nights on dark trails we needed to make some changes. New LED headlight bulbs and fog light bulbs gave us more powerful, street-legal lighting while two Westin 6" LED bars and two Rigid SR-M's provided better off-road accessory lighting. Fitting larger tires and getting a more comfortable ride off road was next on the list. We ditched the worn factory F150 suspension and bolted on new Fox coilovers, rear shocks, and a ReadyLift add-a-leaf kit. With that we also grabbed some 17" Fuel wheels and Falken Wildpeak M/T tires to get this truck ready for action. MORE INFO ON OUR LEVELING KIT, WHEELS & TIRES
Our hunting rig was going to need some functional armor out in the woods, so to keep its front end and underbelly safe we bolted on a Westin grille guard and a set of RCI skid plates. Sharp rocks, stray branches and tight trails are all less of a worry now and the menacing look is a great bonus! MORE INFO ON OUR GRILLE GUARD & ARMOR
It's hard to test or enjoy a truck by just looking at it in a paved parking lot and that's not really our style anyway. We loaded up our freshly built F150 hunting truck and road tripped to northern Arizona in search of mud, snow, and a good time. We also wanted to get some serious off road miles on the truck to test out all the new suspension mods and tires! PHOTOS & VIDEOS OF OUR BUILD
