Stage 3 Motorsports 2012 F150 3.5L EcoBoost FX4 Project Truck
This build started off as a clean, near-stock 2012 F150 3.5L EcoBoost with the well equipped FX4 trim package. While some folks might consider this truck perfect right off the lot, we here at Stage 3 Motorsports saw potential for something much bigger, and much more powerful. Follow our build below as we transform this F150 into a rugged trail rig that's ready for any terrain the wilderness can throw at it.
We here at Stage 3 realize that sometimes it's the little details that can make a huge difference in both the appearance and functionality of an F150. We started off our project build with a few small, easy upgrades to make hauling easier, give us some storage for tools, and add some additional utility to our truck. To that end, we grabbed ourselves a Bedrug Bed Mat and Tailgate Mat, an Undercover Swing Case Tool Box, Husky Liners Rear Wheel Well Liners, and a UPR Catch Can. While EcoBoosts respond decently to bolt-on parts, the real key to unlocking their massive potential is custom tuning. We grabbed a Livewire TS loaded up with 5-Star custom tunes, along with a couple of different cold air intakes, and got to work stacking on some awesome power gains. Along with these upgrades, we threw on aFe hot-side intercooler pipes and a Solo Mach-X exhaust to give a more aggressive exhaust note and an extra bump in power. This truck, being one owned by Stage 3, was going to get a serious lighting overhaul sooner or later. The first set of many lighting upgrades was a Recon tailgate LED light bar, aggressive HID headlights and a Raptor style grille light kit. After mounting our ADD Bumpers we also wired in a 40" Rigid E-Series LED light bar and a pair of Rigid Dually's. These lighting upgrades really helped bring the truck's look together and gave us the proper lighting we needed for late night off-roading. MORE INFO ON OUR LIGHTING UPGRADES
We went big with this F150 by grabbing a massive Zone 6" lift kit, swapping that out for an 8" lift and then adding 20x9" Fuel Wheels and 37" Mickey Thompson tires to get it up off the ground. The lift, wheels, and tires all combined to totally overhaul our project truck's appearance, all while giving it a massive boost in off-road capability. The even better news is that the truck has no trouble getting those heavy wheels and massive tires to turn, and is still throwing down more than enough power to whip this thing around without any complaint. In order to truly complete the aggressive styling we wanted and protect our F150 on the trails, we grabbed matching ADD Stealth front and rear bumpers. These allowed for out truck to gain a better approach angle, a more rugged appearance and of course, more areas to add lights. On the front we mounted up a 40" Rigid E-Series LED light bar and on the back we bolted on a pair of Rigid Duallys. MORE INFO ON OUR FRONT & REAR BUMPERS
With our 2012 F150 modified front to back with almost every product we could find to throw at it, there was really only one thing left to do. We had to go get it dirty! We took this truck as well as a few of our other F150 project vehicles up to Flagstaff, Arizona for a weekend in the snow and mud, running trails.
