Stage 3's 2011 F150 5.0L Project Workhorse Build
Well, we've officially lost it. This work truck F150 build is starting off with 173,000 miles on the odometer, a bed with far too many holes, some bedside and fender damage, decals from its former employer, rusty side steps, base steel wheels, mismatched tires, bad IWEs and hubs, and a lovely P0430 catalytic coverter code from a ruined Y-pipe. The real question is what is going right with this truck? Well, it's a SuperCrew Cab 5.0L V8 with 4WD and a clean title that we picked up extremely cheap. Follow us on this journey of transforming a tired workhorse into a genuine thoroughbred that can do a little bit of everything!
With the truck having more than its fair share of issues and DTC Codes, we got down and dirty to fix this tired truck up before we started stacking on the modifications. We swapped out its Swiss Cheese bed rail caps, fixed its IWE system, and got it some new catalytic converter assemblies so that it could get back in fighting shape. Read more about it here! As an XL packaged work truck, our F150 didn't come with much in the way of accessories or upgrades. To spruce up our workhorse's appearance we bolted on a black mesh grille and then moved around back to install a new Truxedo Duece 2 cover and TonneauMate toolbox for better utility! The factory lighting equipment on most F150's is not top notch and our workhorse is no exception. In fact, it was a little worse than most with its fogged lenses, cracked plastic and poor light output. Thankfully we're no strangers to lighting upgrades around here so we got to work replacing the headlights and taillights while also adding in a couple offroad LED's from KC to get our truck ready for the trails! With most of our old Work Truck's problems taken care of, it was high time to give it a total overhaul with fresh suspension wheels and tires. The truck got a complete do-it-all BOSS trail Pack suspension, new Moto Metal wheels, and aggressive 33" Toyo Open Country tires to finish it all off. Read more about it here! With our XL's suspension overhauled, it was time to get rid of its base model appearance while also providing some extra protection for the body. Our old Workhorse got new Hammerhead off-road bumpers, bright and compact KC off-road lights, and a set of Lund rock rails to replace the rusty side steps. Get all the details...
