Wiring and OE-Style Switch for Custom Lighting

If your truck already has a set of reverse lights, or if you're just not a fan of Rigid Industries, then you can grab this Starkey Products Wiring and Switch kit that can be adapted to your own application and set of reverse lights. This wiring kit is the exact same system that Starkey includes in their complete reverse light system and gives your truck an OE-style switch inside your cab for activating your reverse lights of choice.

Complete Reverse Light Wiring System

Starkey's wiring kit is one of the cleanest and highest quality kits on the market. The kit comes with 23 feet of wiring, a fuse, a relay, and a complete switch that can install in your dashboard or anywhere else you see fit. Starkey's wiring harness comes with pre-installed connectors that allow it to hook right up to Rigid Industries LED lights. All other lights will require a set of Starkey's Pigtail Connectors which are available from our drop-down menu above at additional cost. The wiring pulls power from any 12V source.

Maximum Amp Draw: this wiring harness can handle a maximum of 15 amps of continuous draw. Be sure not to exceed 15 amps with your off-road lights of choice.

Will this harness allow me to have the lights come on in reverse AND give me the option to turn them on manually when I am parked hooking up the trailer?

It does indeed. If you take a look at the last picture you'll see a blue wire with a red connector. That hooks into a quick splice connector that taps into your trailer reverse lights. Check out our install guide on our blog for more information.

I currently just installed some Rigid Flush Mount Diffused lights as back up lights and i just stumbled across this Wiring and switch. I see there are three options. 1. Pigtails for non rigid lights 2. no thank you 3. Starkey Pigtail Connector. Would i need to select the option with starkey pigtail connector in order for them to work with my rigid lights? Thanks

If I wire the lights to come on automatically when in reverse, can I use the switch to override them and turn them off?

Not with how the kit comes out of the box. The issue is that the tap for the trailer reverse lights and the switch wiring are operating on separate pulls, so there's really not a way to have one override the other. The only real way to get what you want to work would be to use a three position switch instead of the standard two-position included in the kit and tie in a relay between the trailer tap and the standard constant. However, the kit's not configured that way out of the box and it would take a custom wiring solution.

What color is the LED in the light switch? Is it illuminated when the lights are off or only when they are on?

The switch is backlit by red LEDs, which are only activated when you turn the switch to the "on" position to activate your backup lights of choice.

I have the Westin hdx rear bumper with the fm6 flush mount LED lights, 1) will this harness work with those lights? 2)do I have to order the pigtails, because the light kit came with 2 supplied pigtails? Thanks in advance.

1). As long as you order the pigtail connectors, this kit will work with your lights. 2). Because the Westin FM6s do not use two-pin deutsch connectors, you will need the additional Starkey Pigtail connectors in order for this harness to work with those particular lights.

Is there any way I can get a switch for this harness that matches the ones that comes with Rigid lights? I already have one switch installed for the fog lights and am trying to get them to match.

Unfortunately, this kit is only available with its included Contura Switch. A cherry switch or other switch to match other lights would need to purchased separately, and you'd likely require a custom wiring solution.

I would like to flush mount two lights (D2 Pro Driving & Dually Pro Flood) on both sides of my rear bumper for a total of 4 lights. Can this harness operate these 4 lights with the one switch?

This harness and switch can handle up to 15 amps, so as long as your combination does not exceed 15 amps worth of draw, you should be fine. That being said, you would need to modify this harness with a deutsch splitter or other wiring solution, because it only comes with connectors for two lights.

I have a Starkey backup light kit and misplaced the wiring instructions for the switch. Can someone send me the digital version of which color wires go to which pins for both wiring options. Light in switch tied to dashboard dimming circuit AND light in switch tied to just the on position of the switch? Many thanks in advance.
