Why is the bumper for my EcoBoost different than the rest of the 2009 to 2014 F150s?
It's a common question, but a good one. The F150 EcoBoosts' 3.5L Direct-Injected V6 happens to have two turbochargers that are paired up with a front-mount intercooler. This intercooler needs air to pass through it to function properly and give your truck's motor the clean, cool Intake Air Temperatures (IATs) that it needs to run effectively and to avoid detonation. These bumpers specifically built for the F150 EcoBoosts come with vents, openings, or some other methodology to keep air passing through the intercooler.
The problem with some of the vented bumpers we have here at Stage 3 (like those from Addictive Desert Designs, for example), is that the vented bumpers can't mount winches, due to the fact that winches need a large mounting plate in order to be effective. If you're looking to run a winch, you'd need to grab a standard F150 bumper for the naturally aspirated trucks, but if you do that, you lose the vent for your intercooler, leaving you at quite the impasse. However, there is a solution...
