Things to know about 2011-2016 F250 & F350 6.7L Diesel Tuning

Throwing a new performance tune into the PCM of your truck's mighty 6.7L Powerstroke V8 is one of the most cost-effective and powerful upgrades that you can make to your F250 or F350 Super Duty. All that being said, there are a few few things you should be aware of before going too crazy and making a mistake that could put your truck at serious risk for problems. The biggest thing you need to watch out for are EGTs. EGT stands for exhaust gas temperatures, which increase drastically when you throw aftermarket performance tuning on your 6.7L Powerstroke. While your engine can easily handle the EGTs at stock tuning and most baseline "Level 1" performance tunes, taking advantage of the "Level 2" and more extreme tunes will all require at least some aftermarket bolt-on hardware in order to keep EGTs in a safe range.

In general, it's a good idea to increase the amount of bolt-on upgrades for each level of tuning you increase your truck up to. Moderate-level performance and towing tunes require at least a 6.7L cold air intake kit to improve flow and lower temperatures. High-level performance and extreme tunes will not only need an intake, but also some sort of DPF-back exhaust kit to improve outflow for a further drop in EGTs. These are just general guidelines, and an individual tuner or tuning device manufacturer may recommend different bolt-ons or a different parts progression altogether to keep your truck's engine safe from harm.

The answer to that question is... it depends. Sorry, but it really boils down to what you're looking to do with your 6.7L Super Duty.
