The 6.0L Powerstroke under the hood of your 2004-2007 Super Duty came equipped with less-than-ideal TTY (torque to yield) factory head bolts which led to all sorts of expensive issues for Super Duty owners. Upgrading to a set of stronger head studs is an essential upgrade, especially when you're planning on turning up the horsepower and torque dial on your aggressive F250 or F350 6.0L diesel build. 2004-2007 F250 & F350 Upgraded Head Studs: Which Head Stud Kit is Right For My Truck?
It's fairly common knowledge that the 6.0L rolled off the factory line with a few... shall we say, issues? The good thing is that many of these issues are cheap and relatively simple to fix, and the flawed head bolts are no exception. You may have noticed we have a few head stud solutions that range quite a bit in price and complexity, so we're here to clarify two of our more popular options to help you find the kit that's right for your situation.
ARP teamed up with Custom Age to develop the performance-oriented 625+ Head Studs, which boast an incredible 260,000 psi tensile strength. To be clear, this kit is designed for high-performance applications and really isn't needed for Super Duty owners driving around town or doing mild off-roading. For those folks, the standard ARP 6.0L Head Stud Kit should do just fine. This is the kit to get for the stock and mildly-tweaked 6.0L engine, featuring head studs with a much higher yield rating than stock for long-term dependability. Unless you're running serious PCM tuning or other high-performance upgrades, the ARP Head Stud Kit should do just fine. Keep in mind, the torque yield for the standard head stud kit is 210 ft-lbs, not 270 ft-lbs as is widely reported - torquing to 270fl-lbs will yield these studs!
